"C F Martin has outdone itself with this one. We were visited recently by refugees of the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum (UMGF) two-day Pilgrimage to Nazareth, recently, and, after playing this guitar, which had just arrived that day, they came away saying “Totally unexpected,” “sweet and mellow with great tonal range,” and “simply amazing.” Perhaps this is because the Museum Edition is built like the-year-we-entered-WW2 1941 D-28 – having standard position scalloped bracing, non-adjustable T-bar truss rod and all its connected components adhere through the use of hide glue. Believe it or not – laboriously using this rare glue on a replica guitar, from the first triad, brings the player back 68 years. This primordial binder is combined with Madagascar rosewood – yes, our dear old friend Dalbergia baroni -- a sister (both being from the Dalbergia family) of Brazilian rosewood – on the headplate, back and sides, proffering the closest look and the most proximate sound to the world’s most precious tonewood. We present to you a 14-fret dreadnought made with an aging-toner enhanced, solid Adirondack “Red” Spruce top, fossilized ivory nut and saddle, polished gloss finish on back, neck and sides, Waverly brand nickel-plated tuners with oval buttons, and a Delmar convincingly tortoise type pickguard. In other words, this guitar could just as easily carried the name “Authentic” in its title and been perfectly justified. Other features include solid Adirondack 5/16” bracing, a Madagascar headstock overlay, wood parquetry zigzag back stripe that is, itself, circa 1937 in provenance, grained ivoroid endpiece, body bindings, bold herringbone face border, a 1 11/16th” fingerboard width at the nut, and a 2 1/8” string spacing at the saddle, diamond and square fingerboard inlays in the long “Golden Era” pattern, a 1930s style ebony belly bridge with a long saddle. If sixty grand for a bona fide original ’41 is just a little beyond the pale, right now, this brilliant and beautiful beacon of blissful benevolence, for a mere fraction of that longed for lordly luxury, will, like a sated pelican, fill the bill. List price: $14,999" (C.F. Martin & Co.)
