A 2007 Les Paul GoldTop Professionally Fitted With Two Original 1952 P-90's.

2007 Gibson 1968 Re-Issue Les Paul Deluxe Gold Top with Two Original 1952 P-90 Pickups.

This 'professionally customized' reissue weighs just 8.50 lbs. and has a nice, fat nut width of just over 1 11/16 inches and a standard Gibson scale length of 24 3/4 inches. Solid one-piece mahogany body with single cream binding and maple top with gold-top finish. One-piece mahogany neck with a nice medium profile and narrow (50s style) headstock. Rosewood fretboard with 22 medium frets and inlaid pearl crown position markers. Headstock with pearl "Gibson" and crown inlays. Original 1968 two-layer black on white truss-rod cover with two screws, engraved in white "Les Paul". Individual Gibson Deluxe 'double-line' tuners with double-ring Keystone plastic buttons. Serial number "004670313" stamped into the back of the headstock. Two original 1952 P-90 pickups with balanced outputs of 7.50k and 7.54k. Original (1952) cream plastic pickup covers (with no stamping on the underside). Cream plastic pickguard. Four controls (two volume, two tone) on lower treble bout plus three-way selector switch on upper bass bout. Gold plastic bell-shaped knobs with metal tops. Late sixties Gibson Tune-O-Matic retainer bridge with metal saddles and late-sixties/early seventies separate stud tailpiece. The pots are stamped: "70034 0702" (Gibson, January 2007) and the two capacitors are the "Sprague Black Beauty' type. Complete with the original Owners Manual, Gibson Gold Warranty and two hang-tags. Housed in the original Gibson five-latch black hardshell case with cream plush lining (9.50).

This 'customized' guitar is a 2007 re-issue of the Gold-Top "Fifth Version" (1968-1969) which in turn was the first re-issue of the original 1956 Gold-Top "Third Version". The very few first LP Standards of 1968 had a crown peghead inlay (like an ES-335) instead of the gold "Les Paul" signature. This existed on examples in the 501xx to 505xxx serial number range. The truss rod cover was pantographed with "Les Paul".

The custom improvements are as follows: The pickups have been replaced with two original 1952 P-90 pickups with balanced outputs of 7.50k and 7.54k. They also have the original (1952) cream plastic pickup covers (with no stamping on the underside); The bridge has been replaced with a late sixties Gibson Tune-O-Matic retainer bridge with metal saddles and the separate stud tailpiece has been replaced with one from the late-sixties/early seventies; The truss-rod cover has been replaced with an original 1968 two-layer black on white plastic example with two screws, engraved in white "Les Paul". This guitar is the perfect weight and looks and sounds just like a fifties Les Paul… superb
