A Rare and yet Affordable L-5

This rare L-5 Studio guitar weighs just 7.00 lbs. and has a nice fat nut width of 1 11/16 inches inches, a medium neck profile, and a long scale length of 25 1/2 inches. The deep 17 inch venetian cutaway body has a carved spruce top with a one-piece maple back and sides. Three-piece maple neck with two mahogany strips and an unbound ebony fretboard with 20 jumbo frets and inlaid pearl dot position markers. The top and back of the guitar has a single-ply black binding and the f-holes are unbound. The headstock is laminated in black and has the "Gibson" logo inlaid in pearl. The back of the headstock is laminated in black and has the gold Gibson Custom Shop decal. The serial number ("91399004") appears on an orange label inside the guitar and is also stamped in blind on the back of the headstock. Individual Grover Roto-Matic tuners with bell-shaped metal buttons. Two '57 Classic "PAF" humbucker pickups with black plastic surrounds and outputs of 7.87k and 7.94k. Tortoiseshell pickguard with five-ply (white/black/white/black/white) binding. Four controls (two volume, two tone) plus three-way selector switch. Black plastic bell-shaped knobs. New-style ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic retainer bridge on ebony base and L-4 style trapeze tailpiece. All hardware nickel-plated. This guitar is in near mint (9.25) condition. Housed in the original Gibson brown hardshell case with purple plush lining (9.25).

Only a very few of these were made by the Gibson Custom Shop between 1996 and 2000.

This beautiful L-5 features a carved spruce top and although the body is nothing fancy, it does feature a host of deluxe appointments in keeping with its venerable history as one of the great classic guitars. The model features '57 Classic pickups, mother-of-pearl dot inlays, an ABR-1 bridge, Grover tuning machines, and more.
