The Budget Version of the ES-175

This very lightweight 16-inch-wide guitar weighs just 5.80 lbs. and has a nut width of just over over 1 9/16 inches and a standard Gibson scale length of 24 3/4 inches. Single-bound (top and back) laminated maple body, one-piece mahogany neck with a medium to thick profile, and rosewood fretboard with 20 medium jumbo frets and inlaid pearl dot position markers. Headstock with gold silk-screened "Gibson" logo. Black plastic truss-rod cover. The serial number ("513030") is impressed into the back of the headstock. Closed-back single-line Kluson Deluxe strip tuners with white plastic oval buttons. Two hot P-90 pickups with outputs of 8.29k and 8.19k. Five layer (black/white/black/white/black) plastic pickguard. Four controls (two volume, two tone) on lower treble bout plus three-way pickup selector switch on upper bass bout. Black plastic ribbed-sided conical-shaped "Witch Hat" knobs with metal tops. Gibson patent-number Tune-O-Matic retainer bridge with nylon saddles and trapeze tailpiece with raised diamond on cross-bar. There is a minimal amount of belt buckle scarring on the back of the guitar and a few small marks on the body of the guitar, on the back of the neck, and on the edges of the headstock. The pickguard has a noticeable area of wear, but this does not affect its integrity. Overall, this quite rare and totally original guitar is in excellent plus (8.75) condition. Housed in the original Gibson black softshell case with red plush lining (8.75).

"Two cutaway variants of the ES-125 were announced in early 1965 as budget versions of the 175 series. As implied by their designation, however, the single pickup ES-125C and the dual pickup ES-125CD share the same specs and ornamentation as the non-cutaway ES-125. The ES-125CD is fitted with a classic two-pickup circuitry featuring individual volume and tone controls for each pickup plus a 3-position toggle switch" (A.R. Duchossoir, Gibson Electrics -- The Classic Years, p. 169).
