One of Only Two Autumnglo 365-F's Made in 1960.

This "Thin Full-Body Series" 365-F, 17 inch wide, 2 1/4 inch thick hollow body guitar weighs 8.90 lbs. and has  a nut width of just under 1 5/8 inches and a scale length of 24 3/4 inches. Maple body, 'checkerboard' binding on top and bottom edge, with an unbound "cat's-eye" or slash soundhole. Three-piece maple and walnut neck with a medium-to-thick profile, bound rosewood fretboard with 21 frets and triangular pearl inlays extending completely across the fretboard. Individual 'single-line' Kluson Deluxe tuners with oval metal buttons, stamped on the underside "D-160400 / Patent No.). Two Rickenbacker chrome bar "toaster" pickups with outputs of 7.88k and 7.79k. Two-piece white ' pickguard with four mounting screws. Five controls (two volume, two tone, and one blender control) plus three-way selector switch, all mounted on lower treble bout. Seven-sided black plastic knobs with metal tops with black lettering. Rickenbacker bridge, Rickenbacker 'vibrato' and Rickenbacker "Two-Note" tailpiece. "Rick-O-Sound" stereo and "Standard" jack inputs. The potentiometers are stamped "137 6037" and "137 6039" (CTS, September 1960). The serial number "JK 72" (November 1960) is stamped onto the jackplate. This very rare guitar (one of only two made in 1960 in Autumnglo, out of a total production run of thirteen) is in exceptionally fine condition with just the following exceptions: there are four very small (filled) screw holes on the bottom edge under the tailpiece which would normally suggest that at some time this guitar was fitted with a different tailpiece. We are absolutely certain that this is a factory 'error' as there is no 'shadow under ultra-violet light - and more importantly we have seen these exact same 'filled holes' on another 1958 Rickenbacker 330-F (that actual guitar is featured on p. 230 of Gruhn & Carter Electric Guitars & Basses). Also by the strap pin on the upper edge of the bass bout, there are four perfectly filled and finished screw holes - which would normally suggesting that at some time a different strap pin assembly was fitted. This cannot be seen with the naked-eye and is only visible under ultra violet light. There is a very light surface crack where the 'original' strap pin in that area is mounted. The blender potentiometer has also been changed and is stamped "137 6601" (CTS, January 1966). The soldering on this pot is identical to the other four, which makes us suspect that the aforementioned issues were in fact carried out during a return to the Rickenbacker factory sometime around 1966. If it were not for these 'hidden' issues we would have given this guitar a very strong (9.25) near mint rating. Complete with the original brown leather guitar strap and small buff envelope containing the special bridge adjustment tool and the case keys. Housed in its original Rickenbacker silver hardshell case with blue plush lining (9.25).

The really unusual feature on this guitar is the 'checkerboard' binding on the top and bottom of the body. "Some Rickenbacker features were inconsistent, especially in the early years. As John Hall says "It was not like an automobile company with clear cut transitions between model years." When features in one particular model changed, many times older versions were still in stock…

"A Rick-O-Sound stereo jack was usually another Deluxe feature after mid 1960. Guitars equipped with it could use could use an accessory called the Rick-O-Sound kit that divided the signal from the guitar's different pickups. The kit produced a quasi-stereo effect when attached to two amplifiers. Mr. Hall explained in a 1971 letter that using Rick-O-Sound boosted the audio output while reducing hum and distortion." (Richard R. Smith. The History of Rickenbacker Guitars, p. 130).

Note: One can simply use a stereo guitar cord into two amplifiers - this splits the neck and bridge pickups between the two amps.
